The New York International Auto Show is typically regarded as the last major auto show before the fall season. However, the Shanghai Auto Show is very important as well, even if it flies under the radar. Some of this is because many vehicles shown there are expressly for the Asian market generally, or the Chinese market in particular. But once in a while, we see the debut of a car that will make its way to Los Angeles and Keyes Lexus.

That was the case this year. It wasn’t widely reported, but Lexus debuted an updated version of the Lexus NX that will come to dealerships later this year. The 2018 Lexus NX is an incremental update; it’s not the major update that we saw with the flagship 2018 Lexus LS, nor an all-new vehicle like the upcoming 2018 Lexus UX.

However, it’s no less important for that. The 2018 Lexus NX gets a refreshed front fascia with re-styled LED headlights, plus a subtle change to the grille geometry for better visual (and aerodynamic) flow. The rear gets a redesigned bumper and taillights, new exhaust tips, and motion-sensing lift gate.

There are also updates to the interior that promise more functionality and convenience. The display for the Enform infotainment system is 10.3 inches (up from 7 inches), Lexus Safety System Plus is standard, and the controls for several key systems have been made more user-friendly.

The turbocharged Lexus NX 200t is now the Lexus NX 300t. While the suspension is updated, the powertrain remains the same (as it does on the hybrid Lexus NX 300h). A powertrain update may not come ’til the vehicle enters its next generation in a few more years.

This is one of the best-selling Lexus models — coming in behind only the Lexus RX and Lexus ES — even though it doesn’t get the same kind of press as certain other new Lexus cars like the 2018 Lexus LC 500.
