At Keyes Lexus, we know that we sell some innovative vehicles. Our luxury cars don’t just impress with their looks. They offer unique tech and features you won’t find anywhere else. That’s why it’s no surprise to us that the Lexus brand has become the first to radically change how you check your blind spot.

The 2019 Lexus ES will be the first model to ditch the traditional side mirrors, at least in its home market of Japan. Instead of the mirrors you’re used to seeing, you’ll find small camera stalks that stream video right to small screens inside the car. The goal is to give drivers a better view of everything around them.

These cameras offer some advantages over the side mirrors we’re all familiar with. Rain and snow won’t build up on these cameras like they could on side mirrors, which means that you don’t have to worry as much about inclement weather affecting your view. The camera stalks also result in less wind noise, which is a nice bonus that makes driving this new Lexus car even more enjoyable. Ditching the traditional side mirrors even makes a car more aerodynamic, which means fuel economy gains.

Unfortunately, these cameras aren’t ready for the American market just yet. Regulations don’t currently allow for this kind of technology. Fortunately, we know that the Lexus brand always has something new in the works. Expect to see more technological advancements like this in your favorite luxury cars!
