At Keyes Lexus, we offer a variety of green cars to our customers. We have hybrid sedans, coupes, and crossovers, so it’s always easy to drive away in a new vehicle that will help you lower your carbon footprint. Now, it looks like another green Lexus vehicle could be in the works, and it’s using a different kind of power source: hydrogen.

A hydrogen-powered vehicle would differ from a model like the 2018 Lexus ES 300h in a few key ways. One of our hybrids uses a traditional combustion engine, with the addition of electric car tech that makes the vehicle more fuel-efficient. Gasoline is still needed to power a hybrid car, and a hybrid car still creates carbon emissions. The difference is that a hybrid vehicle creates fewer emissions and stretches a gas tank farther. Some of them also offer an all-electric range, where they can travel on just electric power for a short period of time. In that mode, a hybrid vehicle doesn’t let out any harmful emissions.

A new Lexus car that’s hydrogen-powered would be like that hybrid car in all-electric mode, but all the time. The only waste a hydrogen-powered car creates is water vapor. That’s why we were excited to hear that a top Lexus executive doesn’t just want more hybrids. The brand is looking for zero-emissions models as well, and that could include a green Lexus car that’s powered by a hydrogen fuel cell. We look forward to hearing more about a potential hydrogen-powered car, and we can’t wait to see what other green vehicle tech the Lexus brand has in the works.
