If you’re buying a new luxury car in the next six months, Keyes Lexus should be at the top of your list as you round up your favorite models. There’s plenty of information flowing in about the 2018 model lineup, all of it good — and some of it downright surprising.
We start with the Lexus UX. The concept version has been around for some time now. Its positive reception lead to quickly getting the green light for production. It’s expected to debut at the Tokyo International Auto Show later this year, and to make its way to showrooms in Los Angeles and around the world this fall.
Also on tap for Tokyo (and for Keyes Lexus) is a three-row version of the Lexus RX. Specifications are scant at this point; all we know is that the wheelbase will be identical to the 2017 Lexus RX, but that the rear overhang is expected to be extended to better accommodate the third-row seats. We may have to wait ’til Tokyo to see how this works out in practice.
There’s also more news on the 2018 Lexus LS, which features an Advanced Safety Package with many autonomous driving aids. A statement from Lexus goes to great pains to remind drivers that the Lexus LS is not a self-driving car. Yes, it meets SAE International Level 2 Autonomous Driving requirements. However, as advanced as these are — and they’re some of the most advanced we’ve seen — they should only be viewed as driver assist technologies.
With that stipulated, the new Lexus ES is still an exciting development, because it shows that the company is definitely on track to deliver a fully self-driving car by 2020-21, as promised.
Aside from the 2018 Lexus LC 500, most of the 2018 model lineup has yet to arrive at Keyes Lexus. However, all signs point to 2018 being a great year for the luxury carmaker.
