When you take your new Lexus EV home, your first order of business should be charging it. You can opt for Level 1 and Level 2 charging at home, but either way, plugging your car in is simple. Courtesy of Keyes Lexus, here’s how to charge your Lexus EV at a home charger.
Plugging Your Vehicle In
Before charging your Lexus vehicle, ensure the motor is turned off and the car’s charging port lid is open. (You can unlock this lid by unlocking the car doors.) Remove the protective cap, then lock the cable into the charging port on the car. Finally, plug the other end of the cable into your outlet. You’ll know it’s charging when a green indicator light by your car’s charging port turns on and stays steady.
Activating Level 1 Charging
Every new Lexus EV comes with a 120-volt charging cable, letting you plug into any Level 1 charger. This is the easiest option for EV drivers since you can use any standard outlet to power the cable. This is the slowest charging option, but with the included cable and an outlet that’s close enough to the plug, it’s also available immediately with no additional setup.
Activating Level 2 Charging
Your Lexus EV also supports Level 2 charging; to use this at home, you’ll need a professional wall charger installed in your home. This charger uses a 240-volt cable to provide more power and charge the vehicle faster. While the charging process is no different, it’s much quicker than using a Level 1 charger.
