The 2017 Tokyo Motor Show is next month, and finds Lexus on home soil. We’re still waiting for a finalized lineup of new Lexus cars — whether upcoming production models or concepts — so we can salivate over what we’ll be able to offer the LA area customers of Keyes Lexus. One rumor, of a significantly souped-up Lexus LS, has some corners of the automotive press buzzing. We’ll admit, it’s high on our wishlist as well.
The rumor comes from an obscure Japanese auto magazine, and was reported on a Japanese fan site for Lexus cars. It shares some cosmetic similarities with other F SPORT performance cars like the Lexus GS F and Lexus RC F. The other thing it would share is even more important: power.
Per Car and Driver, Lexus is hard at work on a twin-turbocharged V8 engine that would put out 600 horsepower. That engine is reportedly destined for the Lexus LC, but it could also mark the return of an eight-cylinder engine to the Lexus LS if it’s deployed there.
How credible is this leak? On one hand, it’s anyone’s guess. On the other hand, this wouldn’t be the first time we’ve seen this kind of leak pan out to an eventual production car. After all, that’s how we got our first look at the Lexus RC F ahead of its debut at the 2014 Detroit Auto Show.
On yet another hand (lend us a hand, would you?), the move makes sense because it gives Lexus a super-luxe, high-horsepower big sedan that could go head-to-head with its German rivals. That’s a prospect that should leave them quaking in their radials.
Keyes Lexus will have all the Lexus news that’s fit to print as the Tokyo Motor Show takes place. If you want to slake your thirst for luxury in the meantime, simply visit your Lexus dealership near Los Angeles at 5905 Van Nuys Blvd. in Van Nuys, CA.
