The Lexus ES has been a mainstay of the Lexus model lineup since 1989. That’s a long time for a luxury car, but Lexus has a winning formula on its hands. If that looks familiar, it’s with good reason. The 2018 Lexus ES keeps most of what we saw in last year’s model, which we expected since the next-generation Lexus ES is due next year as a 2019 model.
Of course, there’s more on offer. The 2018 Lexus ES 300h hybrid should arrive soon, for example; it delivers fuel efficiency, but its dual electric motors also provide plenty of torque on demand for a surprising amount of pep. A multitude of standard active safety features was added as standard equipment last year, and they’re back this year. Most of all, we love the interior of the Lexus ES. It’s well-appointed without being ostentatious, and there’s a lovely sort of hush that sets in when you settle into the driver’s seat.
There are things we miss — you won’t find Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, for instance — but all things being equal, this is a highly competent car that we think offers a lot to our Los Angeles and Glendale customers.
