For as long as Lexus has existed, there’s always been a Lexus LS sedan. It’s the company’s flagship, and has proven its worth to the company and to the Van Nuys drivers served by Keyes Lexus over a successful run that spans nearly three decades. The first Lexus LS was shown to the public in January, 1989, at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The car will return there in January, 2017, sporting an all-new design as it enters its fifth generation.
The 2017 Lexus LSÂ currently in showrooms is a much different car than the one that will replace it. The new model will be based on the same Lexus GA-L architecture that was introduced earlier this year on the Lexus LC 500. What’s going on that unibody will also be much different, inheriting some of its looks from the Lexus LF-LC concept and the aforementioned Lexus LC 500.
Specifications are still a guessing game. Even the car’s appearance has only been hinted at, since a bit of Photoshop trickery means we’re only seeing parts of the car. However, we’re expecting at least two new powertrains. One will be a hybrid, the other a V-6 engine that joins the already-available V-8. The design team also promises a more coupe-like profile, though that quite literally remains to be seen.
Since this is the flagship Lexus car, there’s a lot riding on the Lexus LS redesign. That isn’t a bad thing. With so much on the line, we’re confident the company will put every effort into getting it right. You won’t see the 2018 Lexus LS at the Keyes Lexus showroom ’til Q2 of 2017 at the earliest, but there’s plenty more to feast your senses on in the meantime, thanks to the 2017 Lexus models now in stock.
