The anticipation was killing us. After all, it feels as though we’ve been waiting for the 2018 Lexus LC500 for… well, nearly forever. But now it’s here, and we couldn’t be happier. We finally get to offer this great new Lexus coupe to the customers we serve from Los Angeles, Glendale and Beverly Hills, CA. Once you get in and put this car through its paces, we think you’ll be as excited as we are.
We’ve covered the Lexus LC 500 and Lexus LC 500h hybrid in this space before, but in case you’ve missed it, or managed to miss the considerable press attention the car has earned up to this point, here’s a refresher.
The Lexus LC 500 is based on the Lexus LF-LC concept. It rides on a new front engine / rear-wheel drive platform that’s likely to be adapted to other models in the lineup. Its architecture is stiffer than other Lexus cars — stiffer, even, than the legendary Lexus LFA, which is this car’s spiritual predecessor.
Engine choices are a 471 horsepower V8 that runs in the Atkinson cycle at lower speeds to conserve fuel (in the Lexus LC 500) and a V6 engine in the hybrid. The former gets a ten-speed transmission, while the latter has an innovative setup that combines the kind of CVT common on hybrids with an additional four-speed gearbox.
