The calendar at our Los Angeles area Lexus dealership probably looks different than the one hanging in your house. The dates we wait for are a bit different than usual, and we tend to anxiously await dates that the general public wouldn’t give a second thought. One of those is the annual release of J. D. Power’s Initial Quality Survey (IQS).
This year’s IQS, like the ones in years past, ranks carmakers and models alike for their reliability. This year’s numbers were crunched after surveying 80,000 vehicle buyers, each of whom completed a 233-question study within 90 days of purchasing their vehicles. When all was said and done, the 2017 Lexus GS 350 led the mid-size luxury car segment.
Of course, this should come as no surprise. The Lexus GS 350 debuted all the way back in 1991, so Lexus engineers have had more than a quarter century to get this car right. And get it right they have. With six model variants — including a hybrid, and two F Sport trims, one of which is turbocharged — plenty of cutting-edge technology, and good looks to spare, it’s one compelling car.
We’re not the only ones who think so. J. D. Power’s reliability score is joined by other accolades. U. S. News and World Report calls the 2017 Lexus GS 350 the “Best Hybrid Car for Families,” MotorTrend calls it “one of the best-handling midsize luxury sedans available,” and Edmunds says, “Today, it’s even more the luxurious, smooth, comfortable, and engaging midsize luxury sedan it was at the outset.”
Of course, no number of awards and accolades is an adequate substitute for a good ride. The opinion we’re really interested in is yours.
