When people visit their Lexus dealership near Los Angeles, they’ve usually done some research into the kind of new Lexus SUV or car they’d like. Repeat customers at Keyes Lexus are already well aware of the many great features offered by the likes of the Lexus RX and Lexus GX inside and out. For the uninitiated, we’d like to remind you to look beyond the exterior, and beyond torque and horsepower numbers. Those things are important, to be sure, but don’t overlook the interior!
Each year for the last six years, Ward’s has ranked the top ten auto interiors. Last year, the all-new Lexus RX made the list, and we’re hoping for a repeat performance when this year’s winners are announced in April.
Gen Ikeda, Lexus Project Chief Designer, pointe out to Ward’s that the aim with the new Lexus RX was to “inherit and evolve the DNA of the [Lexus] RX, which enables progressive technology through the elegant interior design.” That’s a longish way of saying that everything — ergonomics, materials, fit and finish — counts, and is assembled like it matters.
So that means supple leather and wood accents, as before. But it also means that the wood is laser-cut for precision, and that the tactile experience of different materials matters as much as placement, since every element should reinforce the others. It’s not just about the ergonomics of the seats, or the instrument panel. It’s about how hundreds of discrete parts mesh in a total design experience.
If all of this sounds esoteric from a distance, get to your Los Angeles area Lexus dealership for a test drive of the 2017 Lexus RX. Experienced from behind the wheel, it all makes intuitive sense. Keyes Lexus is located at 5905 Van Nuys Blvd. in Van Nuys, CA.
